2020 Shaping Up to Being a Huge Year!

We look forward to collaborating with you to achieve the great potential we have in 2020 to make major progress for our world’s shared ocean!

Together we can achieve great things for our blue planet. World Ocean Day has been a growing global success thanks to all of you – our supporters, partners, members, and sponsors. The worldwide Youth Advisory Council continues to make a strong impact on protecting and restoring the world’s ocean. Building on the successes in 2019, highlighted here in the 2019 Annual Reportwe have the energy to address the important needs of the mission we are all on.

Along those lines, we are delighted to announce that Jeff Demain has come on board as the World Ocean Day manager. Jeff started the role in December 2019. He brings with him experiences that will help us achieve our collaborative goals. Having started in a deep technology role at Intel, Jeff grew to lead global programs in growth via strategy, marketing, and business. He has worked across business, government, academia, and conservation organizations. Jeff has also given keynotes on the future of business, conservation, and sustainability. And his personal interests lie in all things nautical, geological, cultural, scientific, and artistic.

Additionally, this month we continue to grow the support for our network of partners engaged in June’s annual World Ocean Day global celebration. And we continue to build World Oceans Day into a year-round movement to address our ocean’s needs. A major part of this effort will be the launch of the all-new World Ocean Day website this month, combined with new promotional and conservation action resources. The launch of the new and improved website will help you and thousands of others plan and carry out successful events in June and amplify the World Ocean Day’s conservation focus for 2020, to be announced with our website launch this month.

Continuing on our growth path, this past year we also invested in both expanding our social media presence and developing a proactive digital marketing strategy designed to advance conservation action in collaboration with our partners. Gloria Kostadinova, our new social media manager, is actively driving greater engagement, reach, and participation with our partners and is committed to using the latest digital tools and trends to advance the World Ocean Day mission. She brings a keen passion for conservation and sustainability issues, as well as a diverse background in strategic communications, digital marketing, and public relations across the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

Together we can continue to make World Ocean Day a growing and collaborative engagement for our blue planet. The World Oceans Day team looks forward to working with you for a wonderfully successful 2020!
