7th Conference of Sea Teachers
13 May @ 2:30 pm - 14 May @ 8:30 pm WEST
The 7th Conference of Sea Teachers happens in Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva (Pavillion of Knowledge) in Lisbon and this year is dedicated to ocean conservation, the 30×30 programme and all the efforts currently employed by research teams all over the world to help protect what’s left of the ocean. This Conference targets primary, middle and secondary school teachers and will take place in Portuguese.
On the first day, we will discuss deep sea mining, sound pollution and overfishing as major threats. We will also explore polar areas, temperate regions and the tropics, getting to know what is being lost at the moment. The last part of the Conference will raise the hope of the public by providing effective examples of marine protected areas in Portugal.
The second day will be dedicated to a more hand-on approach, presenting teachers with tools, methods and ideas to teach about ocean conservation in (and out of) the classroom. How can space science help protect the ocean? Is music able to help us raise awareness? Is the sea all around us all the time? Can we teach about food webs by playing Jenga?
We will answer all these questions and many more on the 7th Conference of Sea Teachers.
