Coral Passion / Koraaldrift is a sculpture group in public area 20 km from the centre of Amsterdam , the Netherlands, in Haarlem.
The 6 large white sculptures represent different corals Margot Berkman found while diving in the oceans. it measures 6 x 6 m and 3,5 m high
During the day the sculptures are clear white, but at night you can explore the fairytale world of underwater colors: the inspiration of the artist.
It is a sculpture of hope, because if we take care of our oceans , the corals won’t die and these bright colors will be still visible in future.
In the visual installation Coral Passion / Koraaldrift, by Margot Berkman points out a different, slower world. Are we above or below water? Special shapes emerge during her research into the many types of brain coral. The corals fight for their existence under water. They show, colored and less colored, whether their life force decreases or increases. Above water they have settled under the tree in the green grass. Together the visual elements form a special intermediate landscape. They invite you to stop and think for a moment: between here and there.
