Yesterday the City of Boca Raton (@citybocaraton) unanimously passed an ordinance banning the use of polystyrene foam (styrofoam) foodware at city events and on city property!
The City of Boynton Beach (@cityofboyntonbeach) passed a similar ordinance in April. The Boca policy was modeled after the Boynton Beach ordinance, both of which do not violate the state-wide preemption on banning styrofoam (aka Florida’s current ban on styrofoam bans! ). This is because local governments are still allowed to ban this harmful material on city property.
Thank you @oceana_in_florida for pioneering these efforts!
