Reefscapers, a marine consultancy company based in the Maldives, specialises in coral reef restoration using their pioneering coral frame technique to create coral gardens. These gardens increase coral abundance, create important habitats for marine life, and restore the natural diversity of the reef.
On World Ocean Day 2022, join their marine biologists LIVE from the Maldives to build a coral frame and pose your coral questions to them! They will talk you through the whole coral restoration process, and answer any questions you have about coral restoration, Maldivian reef ecosystems, & more!
In line with the World Ocean Theme, 30×30, Reefscapers is restoring coral reefs around the Maldives. Coral reefs support 25% of all marine life, making them one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. However, largely due to anthropogenic climate change, coral reefs are declining at alarming rates. Restoring coral reefs enhances resilience, and allows the marine life dependent on the reefs to persist. The coral frame built live for World Ocean Day will form part of Reefscapers artificial reef, which already supports hundreds of species of fish, sharks, rays, and reptiles!
