Salviamo i cetacei! Together we can. / Saving marine mammals! Together we can.

Online Event

Organized by Associazione Me.Ri.S. Mediterraneo Ricerca e Sviluppo

Associazione Me.Ri.S. Mediterraneo Ricerca e Sviluppo (Mediterranean Research and Development) is a no-profit organisation for the protection of marine mammals and their habitat, with a focus on the population of cetaceans in the Strait of Sicily (Mediterranean Sea).  Me.Ri.S. pursues its mission through two coordinate activities: scientific research useful to species management, and dissemination and educational activities to raise awareness among the public on the importance of protecting marine mammals.

Cetaceans, both whales and dolphins, are highly impacted by numerous anthropic threats: chemical and acoustic pollution, the presence of waste – such as plastic – at sea, boats collisions, incidental catches in fishing gear. These sea giants are our allies in fighting climate change: a single whale can contribute to the exportation of 33 tons of carbon dioxide in a year, while an adult tree exports a medium of 21 kilos of carbon dioxide per year.

During this event you will hear about the work of several institutions who fight daily for cetacean protection, and who made a modus operandi out of the motto “Together we can”.
