St. Pete Ocean Sweep Trash Collection Tournament

10 June, 2023

St. Pete Ocean Sweep
8 am – 5 pm, June 10, 2023

We call all Water Warriors, Divers, Boaters, and Beach Lovers to collect trash and debris and win prizes during the annual St. Pete Ocean Sweep Trash Collection Tournament.

Participation is free, and all volunteers will have a chance to win various prizes. The Ocean Sweep tournaments are a Team Cleanup Competition for Prizes with Youth Categories. The cleanup will focus on the area’s intercoastal waterways, mangroves, beaches, and parks, as well as a dive cleanup of the bay floor. Teams are required to register at WaterWarriorAlliance.org

The event begins at 8 am. Weigh-ins start at 12:30 pm and run until 2:30 pm at Crabby’s on the Pass. There are several prize categories. They include the most unique item, total weight, the most single-use items, and the most abandoned anchors retrieved for divers.
An awards ceremony, auction, and free lunch will follow the event at Crabby’s on the Pass. Proceeds from the auction benefit Camp Coral SCUBA Camp scholarships.

Interested teams should plan on attending a Captain’s meeting, at Crabby’s on the Pass, from 5 to 7 pm June 8.

The popular event still has some vendor spaces and sponsorship opportunities available. So take advantage of a chance to get your brand in front of a conscientious and caring audience. There is also an opportunity for interested media to spend the day riding on a vessel to cover the full impact of this event.

Last year, the Ocean Sweep Trash Collection Tournaments helped recover tons of debris from the Tampa Bay area. We are capitalizing on last year’s successful impact and welcoming an increase in volunteers this year. In addition, we have identified and are targeting other areas needing debris removal for the event.

This year, the tournament is hosted by Water Warrior Alliance. In addition, several other organizations and businesses are participating, including Gulfport Dive Center, free charters and SCUBA gear, Freedom Boat Club providing vessel support, Free lunch provided by Crabby’s on the Pass, and Repair the Seas will be making the Captains trophies out of upcycled plastic bottles.

Become a part of the solution to plastic pollution and join The Water Warrior Alliance in removing several tons of debris from St. Pete. Become a sponsor or vendor, or get your team together to compete for the Saltiest Team in St. Pete. Register for free today at WaterWarriorAlliance.org.
