For his 11th solo circumnavigation of the world, Jon Sanders collected ocean samples daily to be analysed by Curtin University’s WA Organic & Isotope Geochemistry Centre to build the first reliable and consistent baseline for global micro-plastics data for the Southern Hemisphere’s oceans. The anticipated eight month voyage was hit by COVID-19 which added an additional challenges extending the voyage to 15 months. Severe storms and COVID-19 did not stop Jon, the world’s oldest solo circumnavigator at 81 years of age, from completing the historic voyage.
