Covering 70% of the earth’s surface, the ocean is essential to all life on the planet. Its ecosystems are crucial to providing us the oxygen we breathe, and its waters help transport goods from across the world. In 2008 the UN officially recognized World Ocean day as an international day, to take place annually on June 8th, with the goal to increase public interest in marine environments and to raise support for the sustainable management of its key resources.
This educational workshop geared towards those aged 12 to 14, will feature activities teaching about ocean conservation. Topics will include ocean food webs, marine currents, and resource management, with special focus on the local creatures and conditions of our own Puget Sound!
Please come prepared for the weather and with study shoes for walking, as workshops may include outdoor adventuring.
Parents, please note this is a drop-off activity for your children. To ensure equal engagement for all participants, parents are not permitted to sit in on workshops. However, we encourage you to explore the Salmon Center grounds and our neighbor Theler Wetlands while your children are in class.
