We are excited to invite you to celebrate World Ocean Day 2024 with Sir Peter Blake MERC!
Come join us on the 8th of June for a free day of fun activities suitable for all the family. Be a citizen scientist and help record and learn about all the amazing sea life we can find at our BioBlitz on the rocky shoreline.
Grab a snorkel and explore the reef or get out for a sunset swim and enjoy an evening of film screenings with hot food and drinks!
Can’t join us all day? No problem, drop in and out to join for what you would be most interested in.
Schedule:
1:30PM: Bioblitz on the Rocky Shore
We will begin at 1:30PM from MERC, be prepared to be a citizen scientist and download iNaturalist onto your phone, we will then head out onto the rocky reef at low tide to discover and record as much marine life as we can to build a picture on the health and biodiversity of our local shoreline.
Dress warm, bring closed-toe shoes. Gumboots or water shoes are recommended.
3:30PM: Guided Snorkel
Leaving from MERC at 3:30PM, see the reef from a different perspective and jump in with our team. Paddle out on our fleet of GSUPS and see how the reef changes.
Wetsuits and snorkel gear are provided. Bring towels and warm clothes.
5:00PM: Sunset Swim
We will get into the water for a dip to appreciate the ocean, and finish with some cocoa.
6:00PM – 7:30PM: Film Screenings and Special Guests Q&A
A screening of a selection of powerful films and discussion.
Warm soup and hot drinks are provided.
