The Year of the Salish Sea is a youth-led initiative based on ancestral, unceded Coast Salish territories in what is known as Vancouver, BC, Canada.
It aims to bring together local First Nations, municipalities, organizations, and individuals in the Salish Sea ecosystem region to strengthen existing efforts working towards a healthy Salish Sea and foster greater public engagement with ocean-related issues. The Year of the Salish Sea begins on World Ocean Day, June 8, 2022.
The initiative is highlighting a wide variety of events taking place within the Year. The Year has already been declared by several municipal districts in the Salish Sea region.
