On World Ocean Day (8th June 2021), countries from all four corners of the world – from India to Guyana, South Korea to Austria have pledged to support the ‘30 by 30’ commitment which is being championed by the UK-led Global Ocean Alliance and the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, co-chaired by the UK, Costa Rica and France.

The Carbon Busters are sending out a Lunch-box Plastic Footprint worksheet to school communities and businesses to raise awareness of our purchase of lunch box items in single use plastic packaging and to provide alternative solutions. We will highlight the Conservation Focus of 30% of oceans for protection and use relevant hashtags.
#Ocean_awareness_days was meant to be a year long project across our school that started in September 2019 but because of the pandemic goes on this year, as well.We support UN’s goal 14 Life under Water and study material about it.
Students have watched BBC documentary films, have studied about the five( seven ) oceans, life on different levels of the ocean, heard songs, read comics, drawn art, written about different species etc.
For the World Ocean Day our students and willing parents will pledge to look after our seas.
We are planing a lesson for primary school kids during which we will present information and facts about the impact of plastic litter and microplastics on the marine environment. In addition, we will organise a hands-on session to create hands-crafts from recycled plastic materials. The event will be carried out in 3 primary schools in Crete and is supported by the EU project Nautilos.
