Ocean Week
Overfishing. Pollution. Acidification. Warming. Our precious ocean and the life that calls it home are now more at risk than ever before.
Ocean Week 2021 – put the spotlight on the huge threats faced by marine species and habitats while offering real solutions on how to solve them. We need thriving biodiversity in our oceans to support life on earth.
The ocean makes up 70% of the world’s surface, acts as a vital carbon sink, regulates the weather and produces half of the oxygen we breathe. Europe has the power to lead in its protection and restoration.

The Ocean Action project, coordinated by CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research – University of Porto), aims to increase knowledge about the essential principles of Ocean Literacy and the impact of the norm at sea, as well as promoting good practices applicable to the conservation of the marine ecosystem.
Together with the students from the Santa Barbara school in Fânzeres we will do four activities of beach cleaning in Matosinhos, Portugal (two in the morning and two in the afternoon).
Our crew has once again teamed up with Ocean Devotion Madeira, Zerowaste Madeira and Greenrractfor yet another beach-cleanup in celebration of #worldoceanday2021!
The event is one of many activities to kick off Ocean Week Madeira, a week of impact events organised by digital nomads and local organisations to help encourage appreciation for our oceans amongst both local and expat communities on our beautiful island.
In the coming days our team will provide more information on activities related to this incredible initiative!

LinDoMar’s monthly clean-up takes us to the wooden walkways upon the cliffs. All the litter from here gets easily blown into the ocean, so it’s quite important we remove it before!
Sign-up via e-mail is mandatory, as we can only allow a limited number of people dua to Covid restrictions.

The waters of the Arrábida-Espichel coast are special. And they are protected by the Professor Luiz Saldanha Marine Park, a marine protected area dedicated to promoting conservation actions and managing the different human activities practiced in these waters. From 6 to 8 of June, we’ll be celebrating the Marine Park with a new permanent exhibition at the Portinho da Arrábida Oceanographic Museum and the launch of the book “Este Mar é Especial”. We’ll be welcoming the central and local administration, the local communities, the main users of the marine park (fishermen and tourism operators) and the researchers that provide scientific support to the park. (Stakeholders will be invited into different sessions due to COVID restrictions).
