International multi-cultural students poster project with design departments of 35 academies and universities from all five continents.

The participating institutions are from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Uruguay, USA, and Venezuela. It was not a general tender. It is a non-commercial project.

More than 50 professor colleagues with more than 1000 students collaborated in the project, either in workshops or as semester work. Each participating institution contributed up to 10 best posters, so that there is a collection of c. 350 posters.

The students’ posters as the visual voice of the youth of the world are a call to preserve the Creation –  our blue planet.

The students were briefed by extensive information material. So that the posters cover by their design all aspects of plastic pollution. E.g. environmental pollution of coasts and beaches; fish and seabirds eat plastic parts and die a cruel death; micro plastics from synthetic clothes in the sea; scientists have detected plastic in fish we eat and even in sea salt.

The global communications project is directed and curated by Helmut Langer, Germany (www.helmut-langer.eu), internationally renowned communication designer and worldwide experienced lecturer, as well a Past President of the International Council of Design. The project was only possible with the fantastic and dedicated cooperation with the professor colleagues, who are part of or have been recommended by Helmut’s global network. A big thank you to them and to the students of course!

It is a great honour for the posters to be part of the UN WORLD OCEAN DAY platform where they get worldwide attention. Because of space limit only a selection of the posters can be shown. They represent all others – they are all part of OCEAN POSTERS against plastic pollution!

Meanwhile selections were exhibited in Argentina, Chile, China, Germany, India, Peru, Slovakia, and USA. Other exhibitions will follow as the COVID pandemic allow

On World Ocean Day (8th June 2021), countries from all four corners of the world – from India to Guyana, South Korea to Austria have pledged to support the ‘30 by 30’ commitment which is being championed by the UK-led Global Ocean Alliance and the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, co-chaired by the UK, Costa Rica and France.

This next milestone follows a successful meeting of the G7 Climate and Environment ministers, during which all members agreed to champion the global ‘30×30’ target to conserve or protect at least 30 percent of the world’s land and at least 30 percent of the world’s ocean by 2030, as well as committing to ‘30 x 30’ domestically.
