Amber Josfin Pineda (she/her) is a college freshman from Guam interested in using STEM, especially engineering, as a means to environmental protection. Besides having been a Pacific Daily News writer and Cathartic Lit executive editor, she has served as the Green Club President, Academic Challenge Bowl Team Captain, Student Council Secretary, and National Honor Society member at her high school. She was recently selected as a Blue Carbon Ambassador and plans to use this role to conduct research into and raise awareness on mangrove and seagrasses in her area. A 2024 National Merit Scholarship Winner and a former Guam Telephone Authority Youth Leader, Amber received 3rd Place in the Energy and Inventions Category at the 44th Islandwide Science Fair for her independently conducted research project exploring the green engineering of the experimental device Blackbird.
As a lover of scientific and sustainable development from an island experiencing firsthand the effects of climate change, Amber believes in the significance of preserving marine life and is honored to contribute to ocean conservation as a member of the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council. Through her participation, she hopes to contribute to the global discussion regarding the climate crisis with her Guam experiences. In her free time, Amber enjoys listening to indie and classical music, watching romcom movies, and visiting cafés.
