Yanson (he/him), hailing from the tides of the South East of Dominica, has always been deeply connected to his surroundings, impassioned by the valleys, motivated by the hills, and nurtured by the bayside of his small village.
As an avid storyteller, Yanson weaves narratives that intertwine Caribbean heritage, ecological stewardship, and advocacy. As an extension of him, his work comprises poems, short stories, articles and other pieces deeply rooted in his experience as a Caribbean Youth.
Yanson had not expected to be swept up by the tides of ocean advocacy and climate justice, but his passion and experience, particularly from participating in Project CETI’s Marine Conservation Fellowship, sparked his interest. During the fellowship, he gained valuable insights into sperm whale communication research and other cetacean conservation efforts. This fueled his involvement in youth-led initiatives like the Caribbean Youth Environment Network, the Hey Campaign Ambassadors Program and the Roots Wellbeing Ambassador Network.
Currently, Yanson serves as the Hub Leader of Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) Dominica, where he leads the SAIL (Sustaining Aquatic Ecosystems Through Informed Leadership) Project, aiming to inspire and support climate activism, ocean advocacy, and youth-led grassroots movements locally, regionally, and globally.
Yanson continues to merge his passion for communications, science, and mental health awareness with ocean advocacy, striving to amplify the voices of Caribbean youth.
