23rd Annual Roger Revelle Commemorative Lecture

28 April, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Join John Dabiri, Centennial Chair Professor at Caltech, for a lecture on his work exploring new angles for ocean investigation, including the development of bioinspired systems with the potential to enable the examination of the entire ocean.

This year’s lecture, Bioinspired Ocean Exploration, will consider how the fluid mechanics of efficient locomotion by jellyfish can be leveraged to develop bioinspired systems with the potential to enable exploration of the entire ocean. Dr. Dabiri will describe how high-resolution interrogation of ocean properties is constrained by the energy requirements of surface and submarine observing technologies.  His research demonstrates the surprising benefits that can emerge from reaching across traditional disciplines to address complex challenges in science and engineering.
