We are delighted to invite you to an extraordinary exhibition that merges the wonders of the ocean with the cutting-edge research of the INDEPTH project. As we celebrate World Ocean Day, join us on a captivating journey into the unexplored depths of our planet’s most mysterious and vital biosphere. This exhibition will bring you face-to-face with the awe-inspiring beauty and immense significance of our oceans.
INDEPTH is a joint research project between Polish and Norwegian Scientists funded by Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, dedicated to unravelling the secrets of the Arctic deep-sea ecosystem, where extreme conditions and unique habitats challenge life to its limits.
Led by an esteemed team of scientists from the University of Gdansk, Poland and the University of Bergen, Norway, INDEPTH employs state-of-the-art technology and innovative methodologies to delve into the depths, studying Arctic hydrothermal vents, their biodiversity, and the intricate interplay of their ecosystems.
We hope that through our research, which sheds light on the remarkable diversity, adaptation strategies, and untapped potential of microbial life residing in these remote regions, we will contribute to understanding the ocean’s vast depths and its potential for safe bioprospecting.
Join us in honouring World Ocean Day by exploring the depths and embracing the beauty and fragility of our oceanic treasures.
The exhibition is open to the public from June to September 2023 at the Faculty of Biology Building located at The Baltic Campus of the University of Gdansk in Gdansk – Oliwa.
