It's Jack Johnson Summer
If you haven’t heard, across North America…
But this summer soundtrack comes with a deeper purpose: bringing people together to care for the places and communities they love.
The SURFILMUSIC Tour is in full swing, and Jack Johnson isn’t touring alone. Across 45 shows, 250 local nonprofit partners, and more than 750,000 people are joining along the way. The tour aims to go beyond net neutral by inspiring environmental action and making a positive impact.
That mission has deep roots. In 2008, alongside the creation of the Johnson Ohana Foundation and the Sleep Through the Static tour, Jack Johnson and his team launched All at Once, a network of nonprofits that empowers individuals to make positive changes through their actions, voices, and choices. The idea is simple but powerful; individual action, multiplied by millions, can create global change.
World Ocean Day had the opportunity to join the tour in New Hampshire and New York, where we connected with more than 400 people. We heard stories of ocean memories, favorite marine creatures, and hopes for a healthier ocean. Those conversations revealed that, no matter where we are, the ocean connects us all.
World Ocean Day is more than a once-a-year celebration. It’s a shared commitment to protecting the ocean through everyday action. The All at Once network is a powerful example of what becomes possible when nonprofits, artists, and communities come together around a common purpose.
As Jack Johnson’s song Hope goes, “You don’t always have to hold your head / Higher than your heart.” We can get distracted by the day-to-day and lose the big picture. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Maybe that’s what Jack Johnson summer is really about. Not just slowing down, but remembering what matters. Finding community, choosing action over apathy, and recognizing that protecting our blue planet happens through small actions that, together, create lasting change.
Editorial note:
The Ocean Project | World Ocean Day would like to thank the Johnson Ohana Foundation for their support over the years and commitment to youth leadership and ocean advocacy.
