Come seaweed foraging with us and our guide, Samuel Arnold Keane, on Fountainstown Beach, Cork on Sunday the 8th of June 2025.
World Oceans Day is taking place on Sunday the 8th of June, and we are marking it in a special way. Our oceans play a huge part in reducing the effects of Climate Change. Not only do they absorb excess heat and carbon dioxide, but their ecosystems contribute to mitigating the force of storms. Seaweeds can protect our coasts from the worst impacts of storm waves, and what better way to appreciate these marvellous plants than to walk amongst them and sustainably forage some samples!
We are excited to invite seasoned forager, Samuel Arnold Keane, to lead us on this coastal foraging expedition.
“We will follow the tide out, at the great reveal of the mysterious, beautiful and delicious world of seaweeds… purple sleabhac, bright green slip of glasán… caught up in lengths of sea spaghetti and fronds of kelps.
As we walk, wade, and forage seaweed’s strangest limbs, we learn stories alongside the traditional uses and health benefits…immersing ourselves along the ‘magic line’ that is the coast. Our baskets full, we will then head back to a campfire and cook up to taste the various seaweeds and coastal plants.”
