Alyssa Seckinger-Crow -Youth Advisory Council Member 2025-2026

About This Event

Alyssa (she/her) is deeply passionate about contributing to a sustainably managed and biodiverse ocean. She currently studies Marine and Antarctic Governance at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, Australia and has previously studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

From freediving to marathon swimming, Alyssa feels at home in the sea, and therefore has a strong appreciation for its beauty, its importance in the climate system and its fragility.

While marine and climate education is essential, too often young people are left with scary figures about climate change, leading to climate anxiety, fear and inaction.

Therefore, Alyssa is on a mission to bridge the gap between teaching climate education and igniting meaningful ocean action. In 2023, Alyssa founded Young Ocean Innovators, to date reaching over 1,100 young people across Victoria and Tasmania through workshops, free annual Leadership Summits, and ideation hackathons. Through events, run for youth by youth, the organization connects local organisations working on ocean solutions with young people to inspire both hope and innovative youth-led action projects.

After moving to Tasmania this year, Alyssa started the Student Science Communicators Network as part of the City of Hobart Youth Climate Action Grant to train the next generation of science communicators, is on the DFAT Antarctic Youth Coalition Research Team, is a current Agrifutures Horizon Scholar, UN Millenium Fellow and Melbourne University Wattle Fellow.
