About This Event
Growing up on Reunion island, a French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, Camille has always had a special interest in the ocean and its conservation. She is now a master’s student in Environmental Policy in Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs, where she acquires knowledge on ocean governance and marine policy. She aims to dedicate her career to climate change adaptation in small island states, an objective deeply intertwined with a healthy ocean.
Besides academic pursuits, she has been very engaged for the oceans with involvement in multiple initiatives around the world, striving to make a difference and raise awareness. During her university exchange in Australia, she volunteered with the NGO Take3 for the Sea for the international deployment of the ‘Ocean Classroom Initiative’. This educational program, aimed at all school levels, seeks to raise awareness about ocean pollution and enhance ocean literacy. She also managed a workshop to raise awareness on whale protection for children and their families at the Sydney Ocean Lovers Festival, realising the importance to adapt discourses to reach different audiences. She then advocated for a healthy ocean for future generations as a member of the Youth Advisory Group at the 2024 Blue Solutions Summit in Sydney, a conference focused on finding solutions to protect our oceans. Following up on this event, she volunteered in organising the Ocean Youth Summit in Sydney to empower the next generation to take action. Studying in Paris, she led educational workshops designed for high school and university students on the climate crisis, opening up the discussion about the environment and how youth can take action.
Camille’s engagement for the environment also took place on the ground. She contributed to mangrove restoration projects with the NGO Conservation Volunteers Australia, and took part in reforestation activities and coral transplant maintenance in Indonesia with the NGO Manengkel Solidaritas. There, she also helped the communication team by designing posters and videos to promote the NGO’s projects and increase the impact of its awareness campaigns.
Camille is currently taking a gap year from her studies to gather professional experience and contribute full time to projects focused on the environment. Currently in an internship in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Center for Mediterranean Cooperation in Spain, she works on supporting civil society organisations aiming to protect and restore biodiversity in North Africa. Her next step will be to go back to the Indian Ocean, dedicating the rest of her year to actively contribute to ocean conservation projects on her island and in the broader Western Indian Ocean with an internship in the Indian Ocean Commission where she will work on supporting regional cooperation for environmental protection.
Convinced that coordinating local efforts worldwide is the key to succeed in protecting the environment, being a member of the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council represents a unique way for her to join forces with like-minded people.
