About This Event

Sonia has always been creative and determined to lead, often taking the lead role in games and imagining scenarios in which she was the heroine. Over time, these childhood fantasies gave way to deeper reflections on the world around her, and new passions began to guide her path—mainly her connection with the ocean. Her dedication to this field has allowed her to impact her community by raising awareness of the importance of the marine ecosystem in daily life, mobilizing efforts to protect our blue planet.

In this process, Sonia graduated as an Environmental Technician, began her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, volunteered in several projects focused on marine biodiversity, and participated in cultural exchanges with Japan, the Czech Republic, and Uruguay, developing research on environmental sustainability. She has represented Brazil as a High Seas Youth Ambassador for the institutions High Seas Alliance and EarthEcho International, delivered lectures, organized large-scale events, represented youth at CBD COP16, and promoted the inclusion of young people in the Decade of the Ocean. She also acts as an Ocean Leader Fellow at the Sustainable Ocean Alliance, a role that led her to active participation in the Our Ocean Conference in South Korea and the UN Ocean Conference in France.

At 23, Sonia can be described as a student and environmental activist, but she is much more than that: a young Brazilian woman driven by the dream of transforming the world and determined to educate the next generation of environmental leaders—honoring the memory of the child Sonia who, without realizing it, was already paving the way for a sustainable future.
