Underwater Clean-up Activity for World Environment Day and World Ocean Day

About This Event

Derinlere Saygı Dalışı Topluluğu, in collaboration with the Marmara Municipalities Union and Tuzla Municipality, will organize an underwater clean-up activity on the Tuzla coast, Istanbul, Türkiye, on 5 June 2026.

Following the severe storm that occurred in Tuzla on 8 January 2026, 22 boats sank along the coast, leaving behind solid waste and debris in the marine environment. As part of World Environment Day, World Ocean Day, and Marmara Sea Day activities, approximately 50 divers will come together to remove underwater solid waste and safely recover debris that does not pose a risk to participating divers.

The activity aims to raise public awareness about marine pollution, support biodiversity, promote cleaner seas, and encourage stronger protection of marine ecosystems. The event will also commemorate the renowned Turkish sailor Sadun Boro on the 11th anniversary of his passing.

This event is organized within the official activities of the Marmara Municipalities Union.
