World Ocean Day 2026 in Ravenna

About This Event

The Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience will once again take part in the World Ocean Day celebrations in Ravenna, Italy, continuing its commitment to connecting global ocean initiatives with local communities. The 2026 edition holds particular significance as Ravenna has been designated “Italian Capital of the Sea” for 2026, recognising its historical and contemporary relationship with the marine environment.

As in previous year, the event is organised by Soroptimist – X il Mare, in collaboration with the DCC-CR and the CMCC Foundation, and with the support of the Municipality of Ravenna, the Po Delta Park, the Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Ravenna Campus of the University of Bologna.

The initiative will take place in the prestigious Salone Nobile of Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste, located in Piazza Kennedy, generously made available by the Municipality of Ravenna.

As part of the programme, Professor Nadia Pinardi, Director of the DCC-CR, will deliver a talk entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Ocean Studies”, addressing the role of advanced technologies in understanding and modelling marine systems. The event will be moderated by Professor Elena Fabbri, Director of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Bologna and member of the DCC-CR Programme Committee.

World Ocean Day represents an important opportunity to raise awareness about the role of the ocean in our daily lives and to reflect on the challenges and opportunities related to coastal and marine environments. Within this context, the DCC-CR contributes by promoting dialogue between science, institutions, and society, supporting a shared understanding of coastal resilience and sustainable ocean management.
