In partnership with the High Seas Alliance, and its many partner organizations around the world, for the month of May and until the job gets done we are dedicated to getting the High Seas Treaty ratified. It’s time to rally together for the protection of our global ocean and the huge diversity of life it sustains!
About the High Seas Treaty:
The High Seas – our shared international waters – are some of the most biodiverse yet least protected areas on Earth. The High Seas Treaty, also known as the “Treaty for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction,” is set to change this. (See blog post from last year for more information on how we got to this point.)
Once it has been ratified by 60 countries, the High Seas Treaty will become the world’s first international law to safeguard marine life in areas beyond national jurisdiction. It will usher in a new era of ocean conservation and management by enabling High Seas Marine Protected Areas and helping to defend our ocean against increasing overexploitation.

Additional Actions:

- Engage with your local community and organizations to discuss the importance of ocean conservation and advocate for High Seas Treaty ratification.
- Encourage schools and educational institutions to incorporate ocean conservation topics, including the High Seas Treaty, into their curriculum.
By mobilizing action, we aim to amplify awareness, drive engagement, and catalyze progress toward this crucial international law. The sooner the Treaty is ratified, the sooner we can take action in the water to restore our ocean’s rapidly declining health.
The ocean cannot wait! We are excited to join forces with the High Seas Alliance to dedicate the month of May to taking action for our shared ocean and the swift ratification of the High Seas Treaty.
