Healthy Derwent, healthy communities, thriving marine life.

17 January @ 9:50 am - 20 February @ 2:30 pm AEDT

Healthy Derwent, healthy communities, thriving marine life

Join us in looking after the natural areas along the Derwent, ensuring we retain its all-important filter function keeping litter out of our oceans.

Through our on-site work, we’ll encourage native vegetation and habitat for wildlife, looking after our waterways that connect us with the ocean. When we’re not getting our hands dirty, we run events to educate about local wetlands – here you can learn about these superstar ecosystems and their unique species.

You’ll always leave with having learnt something new and possibly with seeing a new part of Hobart you didn’t know was there! Whether you’d like to learn about our local wetlands or do some hands-on work to help them, there’s a suitable volunteering opportunity for you.

Roll up your sleeves and get ready to become a hero!

A call to action for Ocean, Wetlands & Rivers

The future of Australia’s ocean, wetlands and rivers is in our hands. At CVA, we create opportunities for anyone, anywhere, to take practical actions and Sea The Change!

Over the next 5 years, we are committing to:

  • Activating a community of people to remove 30 tonnes of rubbish from entering the environment.
  • Continue to work with CSIRO to expand their National Plastic Pollution Baseline Survey across the country.
  • Improve biodiversity, climate resilience, blue carbon storage potential, and habitat for our hero species on 14 wetlands in 6 capital cities and 3 regional centres.
  • Working alongside and supporting 80 community “care” and First Nations groups to catalyse action for ocean, wetlands and rivers.
