Fun and educational materials for kids!

It’s never too early to start learning about our environment and how our actions can impact our ecosystems. Young kids are often very engaged learners and can be the most compelling messengers when it comes to taking action to protect our blue planet.

Here are some World Ocean Day materials curated specifically for kids: from colorful posters with cartoon sea creatures to lesson plans that can help children connect to their local blue spaces. Find all of the materials for kids here.

Unite for Literacy pictures a world where all children have access to an abundance of books that celebrate their languages and cultures and cultivate a lifelong love of reading. Check out their Global Ocean and Aquatic Library for two dozen books related to our ocean and its marine life! The library offers multilingual audio narration and beautiful visuals, making the educational reading experience accessible for young kids all around the world. The team at Unite for Literacy brings together expertise from the fields of literacy education, business innovation, strategic planning, and early childhood development. World Ocean Day for Schools is a celebratory event for educators, parents and students. This year’s theme: ‘Our Blue’ will help students understand and feel their connection to the ocean through their nearest blue space — whether that’s a beach, river, canal, stream or lake. Participants can follow along with a curated day of live lessons or choose from a mix of pre-recorded video and offline session plans to create your own schedule. All resources are available for free via worldoceanday.school and on the WorldOceanDay.org website for use on 8 June and any day throughout the year. The best bit? Their resources feature some of the world’s most exciting and engaging ocean advocates, from marine scientists to storytellers, artists to athletes. See the lesson plans here and register today! 

The Octonauts: Beloved Octonauts characters and creatures are celebrating World Ocean Day again this year! Download printable posters, social media graphics, coloring pages and collectible creature cards featuring  to celebrate World Ocean Day here. Make sure to check out the Octonauts spinoff series – Above & Beyond! The same underwater adventurers from the Octonauts who work to explore and protect our ocean and its wildlife have expanded their expeditions onto land! With new vehicles and friends, they’ll protect any habitats and animals at risk. Share in their adventures by streaming on Netflix here. 

Fraggle Rock: Jim Henson’s fun-loving, musical Fraggles are back and they’re teaming up with World Ocean Day to spread the word about protecting our blue planet! Find downloadable posters of beloved characters Gobo, Red, Wembley, Mokey, Boober, and new Fraggle friends here, as they celebrate taking care of the ocean. Journey with them as they embark on epic adventures as they learn about the magic that happens when we celebrate and care for our interconnected world by watching the reboot and the original series on Apple TV, available in 100 countries! Don’t miss the other Jim Henson materials featuring Splash & Bubbles characters including Flo the Sea Turtle and the Reeftown Rangers sharing important tips for protecting our one shared ocean.
