12 Months of Action in 2025

For 2025 we are continuing the World Ocean Day multi-year Action Theme: Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean & Climate. We will be collaborating closely with key partners and rallying our global network of thousands of youth leaders and organizations in 180+ countries to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable society and a healthy blue planet.

As part of our “ocean 365” strategy, last year we piloted a new initiative, 12 Months of Action, to help make the critical connection between a healthy ocean and a stable climate. After all, ocean action is climate action (and vice versa)!

In collaboration with leading national and international policy-focused organizations and with the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council, the Council alumni network, and our growing global youth leaders network, we are providing a year full of exciting opportunities for continual learning, connecting for conservation, and taking meaningful action. With your involvement, as individuals and organizations from across sectors, collectively, we can achieve much together!

Each month we will provide information and action steps to take on the major intersectional issues. Each month is strategically timed around key policy and action opportunities. Collaborating with our key partner organizations worldwide, we will target strategically important national and international leaders to create the political will necessary to secure the strongest possible policies and protections for a more sustainable society and healthy blue planet.

Each monthly collaborative campaign will address interconnected ocean & climate issues:

  • January: Ocean & Climate Literacy
  • February: High Seas Treaty Ratification
  • March: Global Plastics Treaty
  • April: Earth Day/Renewable Energy
  • May: Healthy Fish Populations, Sustainable Fisheries
  • June: World Ocean Day month!
  • July: Deep Sea Mining Moratorium
  • August: Environmental Justice
  • September: Antarctica and the Southern Ocean
  • October: Sustainable Food Systems
  • November: 30×30 Implementation
  • December: Building Emotional Resilience

To maximize our collective impact, each month we will work with key partners to share some of the best resources and effective communications tools for action and ensure that we are unified in our messaging, targeting the most relevant national decision-makers at strategic times to act boldly on the challenges facing society and our blue planet.

In addition to strategic partnerships, we will engage our global youth leaders network and collaborate with other youth focused organizations to advocate directly with national decision-makers. Also, throughout the year we will provide youth leadership and advocacy training programs and help bring youth-driven perspectives to the forefront of global conversations, empowering the next generation to lead conservation initiatives and drive shifts in policy.

We will broadly share these and related opportunities, new resources, along with related updates and calls to action, through our website, monthly emails that directly reach 29K youth and other leaders from across sectors, and through our social media channels (InstagramFacebookX, and LinkedIn). For example, in February, we will collaborate with the High Seas Alliance to push for the ratification of the High Seas Treaty. This effort will activate our global network to rally support and encourage national leaders to ratify the treaty, ensuring stronger protection for the High Seas and our ocean ecosystems.

If you have valuable information or connections that could enhance our collaborative efforts, we encourage you to share them with us so we can share with the world.

Connect with this month’s action!
